Our Mission Statement

At Headstart Nursery School we believe that finding a balance in providing high quality care as well as education is key to empowering our children to become successful learners.

We aim to do this by offering a stimulating and nurturing environment for all ages and stages of development as well as secure relationships with our staffing team. Whether our team members have years of experience or are just starting out they are enthusiastic, motivated and committed to providing the best care and early years' education to each individual child.

  • That every day is a learning experience and that learning should be fun and engaging, to this end we try to help children discover new things and prepare them for school with resourcefulness, confidence and an enthusiasm for learning.
  • The importance of a passionate, motivated and enthusiastic staffing team who share our vision and values as well as having a desire to continue their own learning and development, enabling us to effectively implement our approach and maintain a high standard.

Aims

  • To create a stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environment in order to realise each child's potential.
  • To nurture happy, confident children with day to day practical knowledge whilst instilling a sense of respect both for each other and the environment.
  • To make the best possible use of the outdoor areas available to use giving our children greater contact with nature, the community and promoting a healthy body and mind.
  • To meet all aspects of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, Pre-birth to 3 and early years' framework.
  • To work in partnership with parents and children in their learning journey through active learning and creative teaching strategies to support the child.
  • To enable staff to develop their full professional potential with a commitment to professional development and self-evaluation in order to increase awareness, good practice and communication among our staff and the multidisciplinary agencies involved in the nursery.
  • To meet and exceed the requirements of a quality educational service as outlined by the Scottish Government and The City of Edinburgh Council.
